The (pre-)history of the One can be documented in a line that’s never straight, but that, through its meanderings, lets us detect an overall sense: from Uranus, Cronus, and Zeus, to Yahweh, the Christian God, and Allah, and to the decisions made through Plato and Aristotle, the empiricists and rationalists, Kant and Hegel, into liberalism, science, contemporary philosophy, atheisms, politics, and religions.

The way of least resistance is to follow the thrust of decisions that have already been made, caught in a river of relations.

— You pay respects to the river of your relations, but this doesn’t mean you can’t change its course.
